Dr. Youssef Boutros-Ghali assumed the position of Egypt’s Minister of Finance in July 2004. Earlier, Dr. Boutros-Ghali held several ministerial positions in the areas of international cooperation, economic affairs and foreign trade.

In October 2008, he was appointed as Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC). Dr. Boutros-Ghali has both knowledge and first-hand experience in the Fund and its relations with member states, considering his being a former IMF staff member and Egypt’s chief negotiator of the reform programs implemented with IMF support in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

  • MIT, Arab Republic of Egypt announce fellowship program

    The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Arab Republic of Egypt announced today the creation of a new fellowship program to provide financial support to students from Egypt to study engineering and other subjects at MIT. This program has been established by an endowment of $18 million from the Arab Republic of Egypt to finance prestigious “Egypt Fellowships” designed to enable highly qualified Egyptians to pursue graduate studies at MIT and to prepare them for leadership roles.

IFC Helps Egypt Complete First Public-Private Infrastructure Transaction
Cairo, Egypt, July 1, 2009 – IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, announced that Egypt’s government has selected the winning bidder for the country’s first public-private partnership project, a large wastewater facility that will greatly improve sanitation services at a new city outside Cairo.

Egypt to spend $57.6bn this fiscal
CAIRO: Egypt expects to spend 323.9bn Egyptian pounds ($57.6bn) and receive 225bn pounds in revenue in the fiscal year starting July 1, the Finance Ministry said on Monday.
